St Michael's Cave

A dramatic grotto filled with stalagmites and stalactites.

One of 150 caves hidden inside the Rock of Gibraltar, St Michael’s Cave is easily accessible a short walk downhill from the top of the Cable Car. See map.

The cave was originally believed to be bottomless and although it is not, is impressive nonetheless. Gaze up at the impressively vaulted ceiling, and find out about the Rock’s unique geological formation. In the evenings, St Michael’s Cave is used for concerts, plays and other events, and its stalagmites and stalactites must make it one of the most atmospheric venues in the World.

For the more intrepid, special tours can be arranged so some of the deeper caves but these are not open to the public on a daily basis.
