I'm a history lover

Gibraltarian history really is unique and for history lovers Gibraltar is a treasure trove to be discovered.

A wonderful day would start with the Interactive Guide at the Top of the Rock, giving you a perfect introduction to Gibratlar’s history.

A walk of approximately 30 minutes takes you to the Upper Galleries, or Great Siege Tunnels, where you can find out how Gibraltar’s natural fortress position was strengthened further by the ingenuity of soldiers. The City Under Siege Exhibition will give you another insight into this period of Gibraltar’s history and is a 10-minute walk from the Tunnels.

From there the Moorish Castle can be reached in about 5 minutes on foot. After finding out more about Gibraltar’s Moorish past and links with North Africa, stroll downhill to Main Street where you’ll be ready for a coffee at one of the pavement cafés or a wonder round the shops.

The museum makes a wonderful and peaceful break from shopping and gives a thorough overview of Gibraltar’s past. You may also want to take a bus to see the 100 ton gun, part of Gibratlar’s ‘modern’ military heritage.
