Gibraltar has much to offer nature lovers, despite it’s small size.
The Rock itself is a designated Nature Reserve, and our climate ensures that much of in it is unique to Gibraltar.
Start in the Alameda Gardens, a botanical garden that is a botanists heaven and a peaceful way to start the day. It is sited next to the Cable Car base station, so then take the Cable Car to the Top of the Rock, which is one of the best natural bird viewing points in the world, situated as it is on a key migration point between Europe and Africa.
A stroll down the hill to the Cable Car middle station will give you the opportunity to breath in the sea air and, in season, appreciate the wild flowers. Look out for the Apes at the Top and Middle Stations – they are the only Barbary Apes in Europe.
There are many walks in and around the Nature Reserve.
Take the Cable Car down to the bottom of the Rock and head off on a boat trip to see the dolphins, a nearly guaranteed sight in the warm Mediterranean waters surrounding Gibraltar.
