Gibraltar is just 3.5 square miles, with a town centre of just around 1 square mile so most places are within easy walking distance of each other.
You therefore may find walking and hopping on the occasional bus does the trick better than bringing your own transport across the border with Spain, as traffic and parking can be problematic in Gibraltar.
Public buses provide a good and regular service, especially those stopping at the Frontier. The most popular destinations are the Cable Car at the far end of the Shopping Centre, and Casemates Square at the near end.
A popular route, and one we would recommend to visitors, is this: take bus number 3 to the Cable Car Base Station in order to experience the Top of the Rock attractions. Then head on foot to the Shopping Centre and town area, ending up in Casemates Square where you can have a drink or snack in one of the many pavement cafés. Casemates Square has a bus stop with regular services to the frontier (bus number 9), a 5-minute bus ride away. See map.
Gibraltar has a regulated, licensed taxi service, with ranks at the frontier/airport and at different points across town. They can also provide tours to different parts of the Rock.
A variety of Coach Tours is also available, although you need to book in advance and it is usually only available to groups. For further information on Coach Tours click here. |
